Intensive Writing

Overview:  Emphasize and Integrate Reading, Writing, Thinking and Speaking. 

Course Content: Student's will read 2-3 chapters per week from The Giver, plus additional reading assignments which will amplify the students critical thinking skills.  Students will be expected to verbalize their thoughts about the subject, in clear, accurate, and concise manner.  They will be expected to ask questions from the instructor, to attain clarification of thought and academic understanding. 

Course Goals:

Improve site word vocabulary, writing skills, and reading comprehension.  The course will use both a Phonics AND the Whole Word approach to improve reading skills.  

Teaching Philosophy:

 My pedagogical approach is to cultivate a love and enthusiasm of learning. Critical thinking, the ability to weigh facts and evidence to form a healthy, effective perspective, is the goal of this course.  To serve this goal, student's will improve their academic writing and critical thinking skills. The teacher will also emphasize the integration of background knowledge into the course through additional reading materials.  

Learning Objectives:

​Students will develop critical thinking and academic writing skills necessary for academic success.  The Giver will introduce students to concepts of right and wrong, and what is true and what is expedient.

Frank Morris has a Masters Degree in Education, is Certified as a Teacher by New York State,  and has more than 15 years experience teaching and tutoring students of all ages and academic levels.
